Actors and Territories
Definition of our objectives:
Work in West (Mali, Burkina, Ivory Coast and Togo), Central (Cameroon and North Africa (Egypt and Morocco), Madagascar and Andean Latin America (Bolivia, Peru, Colombia and Ecuador) is included in the "Economy, Actors and Territories" desk of Acting for Life
Our partners' efforts focus on three objectives:
1. Improving both access to productive resources (grazing, water, land, capital, etc.) and management practices in order to strengthen income-generating activities and improve local communities' living conditions
Acting for Life‘s partners pay particular attention to the resources producers and entrepreneurs need to produce larger quantities of higher quality products that they can process and market under optimum conditions. Local communities may have as much need of natural resources (e.g. water, land and grazing) as they do of equipment or infrastructure (e.g. roads, pumps or machine tools) or access to financial services (e.g. credit, savings and insurance).
Example of initiative supported in Mali :
2. Proposing and setting up innovative production and marketing models in both rural and urban areas, which enable entrepreneurs and producers to improve their income.
Acting for Life supports the innovative forms of economic organization adopted by producers and entrepreneurs, enabling them to generate greater added value. These social enterprises can then offer new income and marketing opportunities to small rural and urban businesses. Priority is given to efforts to combat desertification and rural exodus and to revive the economic and social life of market and intermediate towns. These initiatives further the interests of grassroots producers and fit in with the commercial and economic rationale of the regions where they operate.
Example of initiative supported in Colombia:
3. Developing sustainable systems of training and support for both rural and urban small businesses
Inadequate human resources often represent a constraint on economic and social development. Acting for Life supports training structures that bring out the skills and experience needed by local businesses. These partners also offer support services to small businesses to consolidate their growth and ensure sustainable economic development.
